Musketeers Capture Two Silver Medals on Opening Day of BIG EAST Championships

Xavier had 11 student-athletes qualify for individual final heats on Saturday
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Xavier track and field captured two silver medals on the opening day of the BIG EAST Championships. A total of 11 student-athletes qualified for the final heats of their respective individual events on Saturday.Â
The two-day meet is being hosted by Villanova University at Jumbo Elliott Track and Field.
Zachary Polk placed second in the long jump with a distance of 7.06m (23-2.00), increasing his career medal count to 14 at the BIG EAST Championships (indoor and outdoor). The junior also posted a new PR in the 100-meter dash - and the fastest time in the conference this season - with a time of 10.59. He also advanced to the finals in the 200-meter dash and will compete in the 4x100 relay on Saturday.
Russell Platt placed second in the high jump 2.00m (6-6.75) to earn his first medal of the championships and the ninth of his career. The senior also qualified for the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes on Saturday and will also compete in the 4x100 relay.Â
Junior Karmen Auble ranks second in the heptathlon with 5,890 points. She will compete in three more events on Saturday morning.Â

The final day of the BIG EAST Championships begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12.
