Four-Run 6th inning for the Hoosiers breaks open the game

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Xavier played a close game with Indiana until the Hoosiers picked up four runs in the sixth inning, with three of those runs coming off of walks. Xavier's pitching staff struggled on Saturday, giving up 12 earned runs.

XU fell to 25-20 with the loss, while Indiana improved to 26-17-2.

• Game three of the series is set for Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Garrett Schilling (3-2) took the loss for the Musketeers after pitching 5.1 innings and giving up seven earned runs.
• Brad Kirschner relieved Schilling, throwing 15 pitches and allowing one earned run.
• Taylor Williams came in to relieve Kirschner and pitched 1.2 innings. He gave up two earned runs and threw two strikeouts.
• Jason Hall came in for the Musketeers in the eighth inning to pitch 0.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned).
• Trent Astle closed out the game for the Musketeers, pitching 0.2 innings.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Xavier registered 13 hits, but only scored three runs.
• Rylan Bannon continued his hitting streak at 11 straight games by going 3-for-4. He has also reached in a team-high 20 straight games.
• Conor Grammes had an impressive game, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs.
• Chris Givin went 1-for-4 and had one RBI.
• Other Musketeers who registered hits were Sam Flamini (1-for-1), Ethan Schmidt (1-for-1), Ryan Fournier (1-for-1), Will LaRue (1-for-3) and Matt Fallon (2-for-4).

HOW XU SCORED

THIRD INNING: Rylan Bannon recorded a single to get on base before putting himself in scoring position after advancing to second base off of a wild pitch. Chris Givin drove in Bannon with a single to left field.

FIFTH INNING: Freshman Conor Grammes blasted a solo home-run to center field to make the score, IU 4, XU 2.

SEVENTH INNING: Mitch Gallagher scored on a Conor Grammes RBI single to left field.
