Kelsey Hunyadi, Taylor Spradling join Xavier Athletics in assistant coaching roles
CINCINNATI - Xavier women' soccer head coach Nate Lie announced a pair of additions to his staff. Lie has added Kelsey Hunyadi in the role of assistant coach. Taylor Spradling also joins Lie's staff as a volunteer assistant.
Kelsey Hunyadi comes to Xavier from UC Davis, where she has been in the role of assistant coach since February. Prior to working with the Aggies, Hunyadi, a native of Dublin, Ohio, spent a season as the director of soccer operations as Texas Christian University.
"Kelsey has a rich and diverse set of experiences that make her a great fit here at Xavier," said Lie. "Kelsey has coached at the Division I level for four years, and has been a part of very successful programs. She is very relationship-focused, which will pay dividends within our team culture and on the recruiting trail."
At TCU, Hunyadi managed the day-to-day operations and assisted in player development for a team that won 12 games, the second most in program history, and earned the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
During her time in Texas, Hunyadi also served as head coach of the U14 girls team for the Dallas Texans Club program.
Prior to TCU, Hunyadi spent time as an assistant at Youngstown State, Kentucky and Capital University, as well as with the Ohio Premier Soccer Club.
"Kelsey has Ohio roots having grown up in Columbus," said Lie "She was an All-Conference player in both the BIG EAST and SEC, so she's very familiar with the level of play in our conference. I feel very fortunate to have Kelsey aboard."
Hunyadi played over 6,200 minutes through 64 matches during her college career. She began her collegiate playing career at Louisville in 2007, earning third-team All-BIG EAST as a freshman and earning BIG EAST Player of the week three times during a pair of seasons.
Hunyadi played the final two seasons of her collegiate career at Kentucky, earning second-team All-SEC as a senior after a 14-goal, 38-point season. Each mark fell one tally shy of setting the UK single-season record. Hunyadi also recorded 10 assists as a senior, the second most in UK single season records and set a single-season record of 90 shots.
Hunyadi graduated from Kentucky in May 2012 with a Bachelors of Political Science. She holds USSF "D," "E" and "F" Licenses.
