Taylor's First Half Strike Not Enough as Men's Soccer Falls in Opener, 2-1

Visiting Loyola equalized in 64th minute before scoring in overtime to escape with a win
CINCINNATI – Cam Taylor found the back of the net in the 27th minute to give Xavier an early lead in front of a rowdy home crowd of 1,204, but visiting Loyola Chicago equalized in the second half and escaped with a 2-1 win in overtime as men's soccer fell in its 2017 opener.
XU (0-1) controlled the pace from the outset, as Simen Hestnes missed just wide on a header in the opening minute.
25 minutes into the match, XU had a 4-0 edge in shots and they would go into the locker room with a 7-1 edge in shots and a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.
The Ramblers hung tough, however, finding the equalizer off a restart in the second half and scoring in the 95th minute to steal a road win.
For the match, XU held a 12-11 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Zachary Nelson made the start in goal and played the full match, making two saves in his second career start.
Jacob Goodall also registered his first career assist in the match, finding Cam Taylor off a corner to give XU an early lead. The 27th minute strike was Taylor's third career tally.
