Musketeers get goals from Cam Taylor, Josh Grant to improve to 4-1-1
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer extended its unbeaten streak to five straight matches, getting first half goals from Josh Grant and Cameron Taylor en route to a 2-1 win at XU Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Musketeers improved to 4-1-1 on the season before entering BIG EAST Conference action this weekend against Georgetown. Cleveland State fell to 2-4 with the loss.
Xavier dominated the match statistically, leading in shots (15-5) and corners (5-0).
• Cameron Taylor's goal was his fourth of the season, giving him the team lead. It was his second goal in as many matches.
• Xavier has now outscored its opposition 13-6 this season. The Musketeers have also taken 53 corners against just 16 by their opponents in six matches.
• The five match unbeaten streak is the longest for XU since Oct. 14-31, 2015.
• The Musketeers have outshot or taken as many shots as their opponent in all six matches this year.
• Simen Hestnes registered his third assist of the season on a corner kick, providing a scoring opportunity for Cam Taylor. The junior transfer from LIU Brooklyn now has nine points (3g, 3a) on the season and is tied with Taylor for the team lead. Hestnes has provided a point for XU in four of six matches this season.
• Josh Grant, Matt Vasquenza and Samson Sergi led the team with three shots apiece.
