Samson Sergi's Golden Goal Sends Xavier Men's Soccer to 1-0 Win Over No. 9 Georgetown

Musketeers improve to 7-2-1 against United Soccer Coaches Top 10 since 2010 overtime win
CINCINNATI -Â Redshirt sophomore Samson Sergi sent a header in for the game-winning golden goal in the 92nd minute as Xavier men's soccer prevailed 1-0 in overtime against No. 9 Georgetown on Saturday at the XU Soccer Complex.Â
Sergi's goal was his fourth of the season with junior Simen Hestnes getting the assist off a corner kick early in the extra period.
With the win, the Musketeers improved to 5-1-1 and 1-0 in the BIG EAST. Georgetown dropped to 4-1-1 with the result.
In a back-and-forth match, Georgetown led 16-13 in shots and XU held a 6-2 edge in corners.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Zach Nelson came up with three massive saves in the second half to keep the Hoyas off the scoreboard as both teams pressed for a late goal.

• Xavier improves to an incredible 7-2-1 against the United Soccer Coaches' Top 10 since 2010, all coming under head coach Andy Fleming.
• Xavier also improved to 11-10-4 overall against Top 25 opponents in the same time frame.
• XU improved to 22-11-4 in BIG EAST play since joining the conference ahead of the 2013 season.
• The Musketeers now lead the all-time series with Georgetown, 4-3.
• XU extended its unbeaten streak to six straight since dropping its opener in late August. The unbeaten streak is the longest for the Musketeers since a nine-game spurt in 2014.
• The Musketeers took a 6-2 edge in corner kicks on the evening and have now taken 59 corners on the year against just 18 for their opponents.
• The golden goal was Sergi's first game-winner in a Xavier uniform and his fourth tally of the season.
• Xavier was outshot for the first time this season, 16-13.
