Cannon joins Xavier from LIU Brooklyn, previously coached with Lie at UC
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's soccer coach Nate Lie announced an addition to his coaching staff this week, adding Kristin Cannon as an assistant coach. Cannon joins the Musketeers after serving as an assistant women's soccer coach at LIU Brooklyn.
"Cannon is an intelligent, caring, principled, well-rounded coach," said Lie. "She has a tireless work ethic, is selfless, and has a special talent for relationship-building. Cannon sees the game at a high level and is a skilled communicator. Having worked with her in the past, I know we share similar views on culture and leadership, and I am extremely confident that she will fit in seamlessly with the current staff. Cannon is a tremendous addition to our program."
Cannon spent the 2017 season with the Blackbirds under first-year head coach Eleri Earnshaw. Prior to her time at LIU Brooklyn Cannon worked in a volunteer assistant role at Cincinnati, working under head coach Neil Stafford with Lie, who was UC's associate head coach at the time.
Cannon joined Cincinnati's program in 2016 after spending four years at NCAA Division III Johnson State College. At Johnson State, Cannon served as head women's soccer coach, as well as assistant director of athletics for student-athlete development and as the senior woman administrator.
Cannon began at Johnson State in 2012 as the head women's soccer coach and coordinator of student-athlete development, and was promoted to assistant AD after two years in the role.
Prior to Johnson State, Cannon also held roles at the New England Mutiny (WPSL Elite), Springfield College (NCAA DIII) and Assumption College (NCAA DII). At Assumption, her alma mater, Cannon also coached under Neil Stafford, who was head coach while Cannon was a student-athlete.
As a student-athlete, Cannon, a defender and midfielder, helped the Greyhounds to a pair of NCAA Division II Sweet 16 appearances. A two-time Northeast-10 Conference finalist, Cannon also served as a co-captain and was named the Reverend Desautels Memorial Award recipient, given annually at AC to the Premier Senior Female Student-Athlete.
As a player, Cannon also competed professionally in the W-League and WPSL.
Cannon earned a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Psychology from Assumption in 2007. She also holds a masters in Sport Management from Springfield College. She currently holds NSCAA National and Advanced National diplomas as well as NSCAA Special Topics Diploma - Mental/Physical Player Development certification.
