Xavier Heads to Texas for Weekend Games Against Southern and Dallas Baptist

CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball heads to Texas this weekend for games against Southern and Dallas Baptist at DBU's Horner Ballpark.
XU will play a doubleheader on Friday, facing Southern at 3 p.m. and Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m. before the weekend wraps up with a 1 p.m. game against DBU on Saturday.
The Musketeers (8-15) picked up a 2-0 win over Wright State on Tuesday and have won four of their last seven.
Dallas Baptist enters the weekend 13-9, while Southern is 7-16 so far in 2018.
Xavier is coming off its second straight BIG EAST Championship, beginning a new era with first year head coach Billy O'Conner after finishing the 2017 season with a 34-27 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Louisville Regional Final. XU has made two straight appearances in a regional title game.
• Xavier has never played either Dallas Baptist or Southern in baseball.
• Kerrick Jackson takes over the program for his first year, replacing 33-year head coach Roger Cador. Jackson was formerly the assistant coach at Missouri and an area scout for the Washington Nationals.
• Southern won the 1959 NAIA National Championship led by future National Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock.
• The Jaguars have had 95 players drafted since 1965, including Major Leaguers José De León, Rickie Weeks and Fred Lewis since 2002.

LOOKING AT THE SCHEDULE |
• Xavier will play a 56-game schedule in 2018, including 15 home dates and the three home series at Hayden Field. XU will travel to nine different states as part of its road schedule.
• The 2018 schedule features five NCAA Tournament participants (Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Dallas Baptist and St. John's). All five 2017 NCAA Tournament opponents were 40-game winners a year ago.
• Overall, the Musketeers will face a challenging schedule that features opponents that combined for a 727-629 (.536) record in 2017.

XU TO HOST LEAGUE TOURNEY |
• Xavier will look to defend its title as the host of the 2018 BIG EAST Championships at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The four-team, double elimination tournament will run from May 24-27.
• It will be the first time Xavier has served as host of the league tournament. Prasco Park is about 20 miles north of Cincinnati and a 30-minute drive from Xavier's campus.
