"We had a great weekend of racing at the Raleigh Relays. This is the type of meet that I've been wanting to see out of our team for a few months. The team dynamic was perfect, everyone came with the right mindset for the caliber meet we were at and it paid off in almost all of our events this weekend. As a result, we ended up with two school records, the fastest freshman 5k all-time and four personal best marks.
5,000-METER RUN
"In the 5K, Jenna Clayworth looked great from start to finish, taking over the lead and running solo for the final 2K of the race. Her time of 16:57 is the fastest 5K by a Xavier freshman in program history. Jennie Prial also ran a solid 5K, setting a personal best of 17:47."
400-METER RUN
"Luke English had a nice breakthrough performance in the 400 with a 49.39. With only two college outdoor 400's under his legs, Luke has already dropped a lot of time and should be in a position to score in the 400 at BIG EAST come May."
1500-METER RUN
"Freshman Anna Kostarellis showed us who the real Anna is this weekend. Her time of 4:33.77 is 17 seconds faster then she ran last week at Butler and is getting close to her high school best that placed her 3rd in the nation her senior year. She's really coming into good form and I'm excited to see what she can do in the 1500 over the next few weeks."
4x1500 RELAY
The team of Anna Kostarellis, Alondra Hoyos, Abby Fioresi and Jenna Clayworth broke our women's 4x1500 school record. I think they could have gone a lot faster and probably could have broken 19:00 but the field was so spread out from the start, they really didn't have anyone to run with. I was pleased to see how each of them handled the pressure of running alone and how they held off a number of really good teams for third place. On top of that, three of the four legs were doubling back from races the day before, including Claywoth in the 5k which is not an easy double."
400-METER HURDLES
"Kara Robinson shattered her own school record by running a very confident and smooth 63.56. She made it look easy and I think she's got at least another second in there before the season is over."
800-METER RUN
"Nolan had a breakthrough race today in the 800. Although the 1:52.57 he ran is not a personal best, it's a huge step in the right direction after a tough indoor season that was plagued with illness. This was the first race since last May that he's looked like himself. Now that he's back on track, I think we're going to see some impressive races from Nolan."
