Britton, Fitzpatrick Named CWSA Award Recipients
04.16.18 | Cross Country, Women's Golf, Athletic Department
CINCINNATI - Xavier standouts Madeline Britton (cross country/track and field) and Mikayla Fitzpatrick (golf) were tabbed the most outstanding performers in their respective sports by the Cincinnati Women's Sports Association (CWSA) on Monday night. The annual awards banquet was hosted in the Schiff Banquet and Conference Center at Cintas Center.
Britton was named the 'Collegiate Player of the Year in Cross Country' as the senior runner wrapped up one of the most successful cross country careers in program history last fall. The two-time All-BIG EAST selection in cross country competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, becoming only the second runner to compete at the national championships in school history. She was also named the All-Ohio Division I Female Cross Country Runner of the Year and was tabbed to the USTFCCA All-Region Team.
Britton placed eighth at the 2017 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships, the highest finish for a Musketeer since joining the BIG EAST in 2013. The Bay Village, Ohio, native also earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors, the first Musketeer to earn the honors in cross country during BIG EAST action.
Britton finished her career ranked first in school history in the 5K record book and third in the 6K record book, respectively. She was also recently named one of two BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Award winners from Xavier.
Fitzpatrick was named the 'Collegiate Player of the Year in Golf'. The Phoenix, Ariz., native was named the 2016 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
She broke the 54-hole school record last fall and was recently named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week (04/04) for the second time this season. Fitzpatrick helped the Musketeers capture the Colonel Classic this spring, the program's first team tournament title since 2014. She also currently ranks third in the conference in stroke averaged this spring.
