Conor Grammes Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK - Sophomore Conor Grammes was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday after hitting .563 (9-for-16) and striking out six in a spot start last week for Xavier baseball.
The pitcher/infielder was a bright spot in a 1-3 week for the Musketeers, scoring four runs and homering twice while posting a .632 on-base percentage. He led the team with 16 total bases and had hits in all four games, including a pair of three-hit efforts and a two-hit game.
For the season, Grammes leads XU with a .325 batting average and is second on the team with seven homers. The McLean, Va. native has a team-best 17 multi-hit games on the year.
On Wednesday, he went 3-for-5 with two runs scored at UC and then went on a tear in the Creighton series this past weekend.
In the series opener, Grammes went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. On Saturday, he made the start on the mound and went a career-high three innings and struck out a career-high six while allowing just one earned run. Additionally, he went 3-for-3 and reached base five times in the 7-3 loss.
Xavier returns to action with a pair of midweek games, beginning with a 3 p.m. first pitch today at Northern Kentucky. The Musketeers return to Hayden Field on Wednesday, hosting Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m.
