Men's Golf Freshman Garrett Wood Named All-BIG EAST First Team

NEW YORK - Xavier men's golf freshman Garrett Wood was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team on Friday, earning the honor after leading the Musketeers in stroke average at eight tournaments.

The Mason, Ohio native has posted a 72.30 stroke average leading into conference tournament this weekend. His six top-25 finishes and four rounds in the 60's lead the team.

At the Loyola Intercollegiate in late February, Wood posted his first career top-10 with a 67-69-69 weekend. He has 10 rounds at par or better this season.

Wood was one of just two freshmen on either the first or second team.

XU begins play at the BIG EAST Championships on Sunday at Callawassie Island Golf Club, which runs April 29-May 1.
