Men's Tennis' Season Comes to a Close in BIG EAST Quarterfinals

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier men's tennis' season came to a close on Friday afternoon, as the No. 5 seed Musketeers fell, 4-1, to No. 2 seed St. John's in the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals. The Musketeers finish the season at 5-16.

After Jack Dykema and Gabriel Araujo fell, 6-3, on No. 1 doubles, Brett Winters and Michael Lee picked up the 6-4 win on No. 3. Matthew Graft and Connor LaFavre sent No. 2 doubles to a tiebreaker looking so secure the doubles point, but fell, 7-6, to go behind the Red Storm, 1-0.

Xavier tied the match, 1-1, when Connor LaFavre picked up the No. 5 singles point, 6-3, 6-0. St. John's retook the lead and pushed it out to 3-1, by picking up points on No. 4 and No. 3, with Matthew Graft falling 6-3, 6-0 on No. 4 and Gabriel Araujo fell 6-0, 6-3 on No. 3 singles.

After falling 6-4 in the first set, Jack Dykema battled on No. 1 singles, pulling to within one, 5-4, in the second set but fell 6-4 in the second set.

On No. 2 singles, Brett Winters was down 6-4, 5-2 in a match that went unfinished. On No. 6 singles Jan Vrba was behind 6-4, 4-3 when the match was clinched.
