CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball hit four homers and led early, but St. John's put on an offensive display to even the weekend series in a 34-7 win on Saturday at Hayden Field.

Xavier dropped to 15-28 (4-7 BIG EAST) as the Red Storm set a new school record for runs scored in a game.

St. John's improved to 27-11 (10-1 BIG EAST) with the win.

UP NEXT

• The rubber match in the series is set for Sunday at Noon.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Xavier got four homers in the game and now has at least one homer in 11 of its last 13 outings.
• Conor Grammes went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer in the second inning. Grammes now has a team-leading nine game hitting streak.
• Allbry Major had another multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. He is now 5-for-7 (.714) in the series.
• Natale Monastra was 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
• Blaine Griffiths came in as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and blasted a solo homer, going 1-for-2 in the game.
• Junior Matt Warkentin was 1-for-4 with his team-leading 11th homer, a solo shot, in the second inning. He has now homered in back-to-back games.
• Mitch Gallagher (1-for-2), Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-3, R), Nate Soria (1-for-3, R, RBI) and Ryan Fournier (1-for-4) also added hits.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Xavier allowed a season-high 34 runs in the game as St. John's collected 31 hits.
• The Musketeers used seven different pitchers in the game.
• Sean Douaire pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out a batter in an eight pitch inning.

HOW XU SCORED

SECOND INNING | Nate Soria launched a one out solo homer to left center to get Xavier on the scoreboard. Matt Warkentin followed him with a solo shot of his own, going out to center for his second game in a a row with a homer. With two outs, Chris Givin singled up the middle and then came around to score on a deep homer to left by Conor Grammes.
THIRD INNING | Natale Monastra led off with a solo homer to left, his third of the season, giving XU a 6-3 lead.
SEVENTH INNING | Blaine Griffiths smacked a pinch hit solo homer to center field for his second of the season, making it 31-7.
