WASHINGTON, D.C. - Xavier baseball fell victim to a walk-off for a second straight game, squandering a pair of late leads and ultimately falling 5-4 in 11 innings at Georgetown on Saturday at Shirley Povich Field.

The Musketeers led 3-1 in the ninth and 4-3 in the 10th, but could not close the door in a tough loss that dropped the team to 11-19 (1-2 BIG EAST).

Georgetown got a walk-off single in the 11th inning from Alex Bernauer and improved to 9-20 (2-1 BIG EAST).

UP NEXT

• Xavier returns to action in Oxford, Ohio this week for the 2018 Joe Nuxhall Classic, which kicks off Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

XU AT THE PLATE

• The Musketeers worked six walks and collected eight hits on the afternoon.
• Matt Warkentin led XU with a 3-for-4 day at the dish, walking once, driving in a run and scoring another. He is now 11-for-19 (.579) in his last four games and has raised his batting average over 70 points to .262 for the season.
• Joe Gellenbeck was 1-for-5 with a walk and a double, while also scoring a pair of runs.
• Chris Givin (1-for-6), Conor Grammes (1-for-5, R), Natale Monastra (1-for-3, 3B, RBI) and Andrew Sexton (1-for-4) also added hits for XU.
• Monastra's triple in the eighth was the first of his career.
• Nate Soria went hitless for the day, but did knock in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Freshman lefty Nick Zwack got the start and gave XU six solid innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits while striking out six.
• Another freshman lefty, Trevor Olson, came on in relief and allowed two earned runs in 2.1 innings while striking out a pair.
• Sophomore righty Conor Grammes came on with one out in the ninth and struck out the first batter he saw before losing his command and walking three straight batters.
• Evan Miller relieved Grammes, allowing the tying run to score, but getting the final out in the ninth to send the game to extras.
• In the 11th, Griffin Lanoue allowed two walks and had a pair of wild pitches before exiting.
• Senior Christian Glass got two outs in the 11th before allowing a game-ending RBI single.

HOW XU SCORED

SECOND INNING | Conor Grammes led off with a single up the middle, going to second on a one out single by Matt Warkentin. After a wild pitch advanced both runners, Natale Monastra worked a walk to load the bases. Nate Soria batted next and lofted a sacrifice fly to right field to put XU up 1-0.
FIFTH INNING | Joe Gellenbeck worked a two out walk to start a rally, advancing on a wild pitch and coming around to score on an error to give XU a 2-1 lead.
EIGHTH INNING | Matt Warkentin reached via a two out walk, coming around to score on a triple to right center by Natale Monastra.
TENTH INNING | Joe Gellenbeck led off extra innings with a double down the right field line, advancing to third on a foul out by Allbry Major. With two outs, Matt Warkentin came up with a big single through the right side to give XU a 4-3 lead.
