NEW YORK - Xavier baseball junior shortstop Chris Givin was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday after an outstanding final four games for the Musketeers.Â
The Castle Rock, Colo. native hit .524 (11-for-21) in four starts, helping XU to a 3-1 week with seven runs scored, a homer and six RBI.
Givin paced an offense which put up 57 runs over four games, posting a .762 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage from the leadoff spot.
He went 4-for-6 with an RBI in a 14-3 win over NKU on Tuesday and then tied a career-high with a five hit game in the weekend opener against Villanova, helping XU to a 23-1 win. The run total was the most for Xavier baseball since 2007.
In an extra innings loss on Saturday, Givin put up a 2-for-6 line with a pair of runs and an RBI. In the regular season finale, he scored a run and walked twice to help XU win its 20th game of the season.
The Musketeers finished the regular season with a 20-35 record overall (7-11 BIG EAST), missing the postseason for just the second time in five years after back-to-back league titles and trips to an NCAA Tournament Regional Final in 2016 and 2017.
