CINCINNATI - Xavier men's golf alum Jason Kokrak ('07) qualified for his first career British Open over the weekend after finishing tied for third at the Greenbrier Classic.
As a result, Kokrak will make his eighth appearance in a major event as a PGA professional and XU will be represented in the British Open by an alum for the first time.
"It's my first Open Championship and it gives me goose bumps just talking about," Kokrak told TheOpen.com. "I'm loving the prospect of going over to Carnoustie to compete in The Open and I think I can play pretty well in what will be a great atmosphere."
Kokrak signed off on a final round 67, including four birdies, and finished the weekend 13-under playing at The Old White TPC.
The Greenbrier was the 10th event in the The Open Qualifying Series and gave the four top non-exempt players a chance to earn a bid to the British Open, which will be held at Carnoustie from July 15-22.
Kokrak has appeared in the U.S. Open three times and has also played in the PGA Championship four times. His 2007 U.S. Open debut was the first major appearance by an XU men's golf alum.
In seven career major appearances, Kokrak has finished four times with a career-best finish at the 2016 U.S. Open, where he tied for 37th.Â
Kokrak can be found atop many of the Xavier golf records and was a part of three NCAA Tournament teams.
