Al Howe came to Xavier University as a star in both football and basketball. He had an easy time transitioning from high school to college level ball, starring in both football and basketball for the Musketeers.
Howe, a mebre of the Legion of Honor, became a captain for the football team in his senior year at Xavier, where he led them to a stunning upset of the University of Kentucky by a score of 26-7. This was another achievement for a student-athlete who already had a superb career at Xavier.
In 1939, he was the only recipient of the coveted "Legion of Honor" award, a truly fitting climax to his career.
