CINCINNATI - Xavier cross country is set for the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, March 5. The meet is being held at WakeMed Soccer Park Field in Cary, N.C.

The women's race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at 11:50 a.m. The awards ceremony is slated for 12:40 p.m.

• The BIG EAST will be running at WakeMed for the first time. In the fall of 2019, the championships were held at the Wayne Dannehl National Course in Kenosha, Wis.Â
• On the women's side, Georgetown enters the meet ranked 20th in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. Providence and Villanova are both receiving votes in the top-30 poll.
• On the men's side, Butler enters the meet ranked 28th in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Cross Country National Coaches' Poll, while Villanova ranks 30th. UConn is receiving votes in the top-30 poll.
• In women's cross country, Xavier returns three of its top-five finishers from a team that placed fifth at the 2019 BIG EAST Championships: Courtney Klatt (25th - 23:05.20), Madeline Dingle (27th - 23:08.10) and Jennifer Prial (35th - 24:02.40). Klatt recently won the 3,000-meter run at the Al Campbell Invitational (indoor track and field) on Feb. 19, posting a time of 10:01.03.

• In men's cross country, Xavier returns three of its top-five finishers from a team that placed seventh at the 2019 BIG EAST Championships: Lucas Houk (42nd - 27:46.10), Brady Harless (46th - 27:53.70) and Andrew Dietrich (47th - 27:55.90).

• Sam Burroughs was named the new head coach for cross country/track and field on Jan. 4, 2021. He joins the Musketeers after previously working as associate head coach at Cincinnati from 2013-20.Â
• Burroughs brings 20 years of collegiate experience to Xavier. He has coached 96 individual conference champions and 45 individual NCAA qualifiers, while leading 18 teams to conference championship titles.
