Up Next: Xavier travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Sunday, January 3, at 5:30 p.m. XU won the only game played between the two team, defeating Wake Forest 87-76 on March 15, 1999, at Cincinnati Gardens in the National Invitation Tournament. Although the two schools have little history on the court, they share quite a bit in common when it comes to coaches. Bob Staak, who guided the Musketeers 1979 to 1985, left XU to become head coach of the Demon Deacons. History repeated itself 16 years later when Skip Prosser, XU head coach from 1994 to 2001, left to take over the Wake Forest program. XU head coach Chris Mack also worked as an assistant coach under Prosser at Wake Forest from 2001 to 2004 before returning to Xavier as an assistant. And former XU assistant Dino Gaudio, who coached under Pete Gillen and Prosser at Xavier, and worked as an assistant at Wake Forest, is now the Demon Deacons head coach.
