Xavier coach and players
Head coach Kevin McGuff
Late rally, turn it on when you need to
“Not really. We’ll continue to compete like we did on the defensive end I think things will fine for us.”
“I think the thing we’ve probably done best with this team is focus on day-by-day, practice-by-practice, game-by-game. That’s allowed us to put ourselves in this position and I know our players will be motivated to go out there and play well tomorrow.”
Tyeasha Moss
Momentum shift late, Charlotte going ahead
“I was just thinking we have to bring it together, stay together and keep playing hard.”
Amber Harris
How did you stay focused and rally back?
“I just said, ‘Let’s stay together and keep our composure’. We tried to go out there and play with intensity because they came out with a lot of energy so we tried to match that energy.”
What would it mean to you to win the championship
“It would mean a lot. Everybody wants to win it but I feel like this is our year. I would be excited.”
Ta'Shia Phillips
What did Charlotte do to try to contain you guys inside?
“The same thing that everybody else tries to do, get some bodies in the paint to make sure we can’t get the rebound. That is why are guards are so important, they get the long rebounds we can’t get to keep the ball alive. They make sure to get up great shots so we don’t have to rebound as much.”

Charlotte head coach Karen Aston
“First of all you have to start with the two that everybody looks at, Amber [Harris] and Ta’Shia [Phillips]. Obviously those two are All-Americans, there’s no question about it. The difference in them is their maturity level. We’ve watched them grow up in the Atlantic 10. Special [Jennings] is a good player and she is so mature now. She runs the show and there is a dramatic difference when she is not in the game. But the biggest difference is the addition of Amber from last year and also [Katie] Rutan and [Tyeasha] Moss, the two shooters, because they space the floor differently and they give them a really nice rotation and they don’t lose anything when they go to the bench. They have experienced players, Dee Dee Jernigan, those are players that have been around the block and that’s the biggest difference. All you need is eight in the tournament and they have eight or nine that can get the job done.”
