Musketeers Move to 5-1 in BIG EAST Play, Defeat Golden Eagles

Xavier had four players score in double figures
CINCINNATI - Xavier had four players score in double figures on Friday night as the Musketeers remained tied for first place in the BIG EAST standings with a 71-66 win over Marquette at Cintas Center.

The Musketeers moved to 14-3 (5-1 BIG EAST), while the Golden Eagles dropped to 6-11 (1-5 BIG EAST). Xavier also improved to 7-7 in the all-time series with Marquette as the Musketeers have now won three straight in the series.

Briana Glover scored a team-high 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting, her second straight game with 20 or more points and the sixth of her career. She was also a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.

Jenna Crittendon added 12 points, while Raeshaun Gaffney and Aliyah Zantt chipped in 10. Zantt also matched her career high in assists with six as the Musketeers finished the game with a season-high 21 assists.

The Musketeers led by as many as 16 points, 32-16, with 2:11 left in the first half, but Marquette ended the stanza on a 9-0 run to make the score 32-25 at the break.

The Golden Eagles battled back to tie the game at 53 with 7:17 left in regulation before the Musketeers outscored Marquette, 18-13, down the stretch to seal the win. Xavier was 5-for-10 from the floor in the closing minutes and 8-for-10 from the foul line.

Xavier was 17-for-22 from the charity stripe, while Marquette was 5-for-7. The Musketeers posted a .448 field-goal percentage and limited Marquette to a .354 clip from the floor.

Xavier also matched its season-high in blocks with eight, paced by Glover's career high four blocks. The Musketeers had eight steals with Crittendon and Zantt each collecting three.

Marquette held a 44-43 advantage on the glass. Zantt led Xavier with nine rebounds, while Crittendon and Gaffney both grabbed eight.

Allazia Blockton and Erika Davenport led the Golden Eagles as both players had a double-double. Blockton had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Davenport had 16 points and 12 rebounds. A total of four Marquette players scored in double figures.
