No. 7 Xavier Holds off No. 10 Providence for 75-68 Win

Bluiett, Reynolds score 15 each to lead Musketeers
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five Musketeers hit double-figures as the No. 7/8 Xavier Musketeers held off a late run from the No. 10 Providence Friars to take the 75-68 win on the road. The Musketeers move to 18-2 on the season and 6-2 in BIG EAST play with the win.
Jalen Reynolds finished with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Trevon Bluiett matched Reynolds for team-high with 15 points after a 10-point second half.
Myles Davis added 13 points, including 11 second-half points. James Farr finished with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with eight rebounds. J.P Macura totaled 10 after scoring four critical points in the final 1:05 of the game to secure the victory for the Musketeers.
Xavier opened the game with seven unanswered points before the Friars used a 13-0 run to take the 13-7 lead just over five minutes into the game.
A jumper from Bluiett stopped the PC run, with the Musketeers coming back to tie the game up at 13-all.
Farr provided a spark off the bench, scoring seven unanswered for the Musketeers, capped by a three pointer as the Musketeers retook the lead, going ahead, 20-15, with 8:32 remaining before halftime.
Providence would pull into a tie at 20-20, before Xavier used a 14-3 run to take an 11-point lead, its largest of the first half, with 2:25 remaining before halftime. The Friars scored three points in the final two minutes of the half cut the Musketeer lead to eight, 34-26, going into the break.
Farr hit on five of six shots for 11 first-half points to lead all scorers. Remy Abell added six on 2-of-2 shooting from outside. Jalen Reynolds added six before the break.
The Musketeers shots nearly 47 percent from the floor in the first half while holding the Friars to just over 31 percent, including just 1-of-11 from threes.
Xavier owned a 20-19 advantage on the boards before the break, led by six from Farr and five for Reynolds. The Friars grabbed eight offensive boards to six for Xavier, but the Musketeers made the most of their second chance opportunities, outscoring PC 9-2 on second-chance points in the first half.
PC cut the Xavier lead down to six, 34-28, with a bucket to open the second half before six unanswered points, including five for Davis, extended the Xavier lead to 12, 40-28, with less than five minutes gone from the second half.
Providence would get as close as nine before Xavier extended the lead out to 17, 59-42, with under eight minutes remaining in the game.
