CINCINNATI – No. 5 Xavier (27-5 overall, 14-4 BIG EAST) has earned a No. 2 seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, the highest seed in school history. Xavier will face No. 15 seeded Weber State (26-8) in St. Louis, Mo. on Friday, March 18, following the Wisconsin/Pittsburgh game scheduled to begin at 6:50 p.m. ET on TNT.

The Musketeers picked up the No. 2 seed in the East Region, behind No. 1 seeded North Carolina. The Musketeer will face off against the No. 15 seed Weber State out of the Big Sky Conference. The Wildcats have won nine of the last 10, including picking up three straight wins in the Big Sky Tournament to earn an automatic bid to the tournament.
Weber State is led by offensively by junior guard Jeremy Senglin's 18.2 point per game. Senior center Joel Bolomboy is averaging a double-double for the Wildcats, scoring 17.2 points and 12.7 boards per game.
This marks the first time the Musketeers have played Weber State.
This marks the highest seeding in school history for the Musketeers. Xavier's best seeding previously was a No. 3 seed, in both the 2008 NCAA Tournament where the Musketeers reached the Elite Eight, as well as in the 2002-03 season, where Xavier won one game before losing in the second round.
The Musketeers have now made 10 of the last 11 NCAA Tournament fields and 14 of the last 16. Only nine schools have been selected to at least 10 NCAA Tournaments in the last 11 years: Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Michigan State and Wisconsin are at 11, while Xavier, Texas, North Carolina and Villanova are at 10.
Seventh-year head coach Chris Mack has led Xavier to six NCAA Tournaments in his first seven years, including three Sweet 16s, the most for any XU head coach in program history.
Xavier is making its 26th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2016, which includes 16 at-large berths, six automatic berths through the MCC and four automatic berths in the Atlantic 10 Conference. XU is 23-25 in 25 previous NCAA Tournament appearances, including 22-19 since 1990.
Xavier is 10-3 against teams in this year's tournament, picking up wins against Butler, Cincinnati, Dayton, Michigan, Providence, Seton Hall, Southern Cal and Villanova.
The Musketeers are one of five BIG EAST schools in this year's tournament. Xavier's only losses against the field came against conference competition, coming against No. 2 seed in the South Region, Villanova, and Seton Hall, the No. 6 seed in the Midwest.
