James Farr Begins Play in Portsmouth Invitational Tonight

CINCINNATI -Xavier University senior forward James Farr begins play tonight in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, which has been a popular spring showcase event for future pro players since 1953. The annual PIT brings together 64 of the top collegiate senior players in the nation to participate in a four-day, 12-game tournament in front of all NBA Teams and the basketball fans in Portsmouth, Va. from April 13-16. Farr's first game for his team, Cherry Bekaert, is tonight at 9 p.m.

Farr was a big key to the Xavier's 28-6 season and school-record final AP ranking of ninth in the country. Farr, a member of the Sports Illustrated "All-Glue Team," led Xavier in rebounding this season at 7.8 rpg., which ranked third in the BIG EAST Conference, and was fourth on the team and 30th in the BIG EAST in scoring at 10.7 ppg. Farr, who had 18 points and 15 rebounds in Xavier's NCAA First Round win over Weber State on March 18, averaged 13.4 ppg. over the last eight games on 57.7 percent (41-of-71) shooting from the field. Farr posted 19 double-figure scoring games and 10 double-figure rebounding games as a senior.
