Men remain third of 10; women, fourth of 15

CLEVELAND - With one day of competition remaining, Xavier's women stand in fourth place of 15 team and the men third of 10 at the CSU Magnus Cup. The final day of competition begins tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Xavier's women opened Saturday's finals with Paxtyn Drew, Samantha White, Caroline Gaertner and Emily Conners posting a season-best time of 1:44.75 in the 200 medley relay.
Alison Herman placed eighth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:31.84, the fastest time by a Musketeer this season. Emma Kauffeld also posted a top-10 finish in the finals heat.
Caroline Gaertner placed fifth in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 54.92, upping her own best time among BIG EAST competitors. Taylor Hogan and Annie Cummins also finished in the top 10 during finals.
Emily Conners posted the top qualifying time in the 200 free, 1:51.38, the top time by a Musketeer this season. She placed fifth in the finals heat. Katie Kerr also posted a top-10 finish in the finals.
Samantha White's time of 1:07.03 in the prelims of the 100 breast is the top time by a Musketeer in the event so far in 2017-18.
Caroline Gaertner posted a season-best time of 55.61 in the 100 back to take third. Her time is the best by a Musketeer and the second fastest in the conference so far this season. Ali Fort and Paxtyn Drew each posted a top-seven finish in the finals heat as well.
Emma Kauffeld, Emily Conners, Abby Garner and Katie Kerr closed out the day on the women's side with a fifth place finish in the 800 free relay.
Xavier's women are in fourth place of 15 teams with 561 points.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

On the men's side, Alex Sironen, Matthew Dyer, David Bunnell and Enrique Hernandez posted the fastest time by a BIG EAST squad in the 200 medley relay this season, finishing in 1:32.07.
Matthew Dyer's time of 4:05.65 in the prelims of the 400 IM is the fastest time posted in the event by a BIG EAST competitor so far this season, shaving over five seconds off his team-best time. Chase Baldwin led the Musketeers in the finals, placing fifth with a time of 4:07.79. Bradley Jackson also posted a top-10 finish.
David Bunnell posted a time of 49.80, the fastest so far in the BIG EAST this season, to take the top spot in the second fastest heat in the 100 fly finals. Brandon Abboud finished 10^th in top heat of the 100 fly
In the 200 free, Enrique Hernandez led in three Musketeers in the top 10, followed in by Jared Ritz and Alex Wolfred.
Matthew Dyer took third in the 100 breast with the fastest time posted in the BIG EAST this season, 55.97.
Alex Sironen posted a time of 51.03 in the 100 back during prelims, the fastest time by a Musketeer this season and just .01 behind the fastest time in the BIG EAST. He finished fifth in the finals with a time of 51.11, and was followed in by Sam Johanns in sixth place. Nathan Runyon, David Bunnell and Landon Clark posted the top three times in the second fastest heat during the finals.
Xavier closed out the meet with a time of 6:51.05 in the 800 free relay.
Xavier stands in third place with 642 points, behind host Cleveland State and George Washington.

The CSU Magnus Cup wraps up tomorrow, with prelims at 9:00 a.m. The top 40 will advance to the finals, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The final day will include: 1650 freestyle, 100 IM, 50 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 50 backstroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay
