Musketeers announce two home dates for the upcoming 2017-18 season
CINCINNATI - Xavier University announced a pair of non-conference home games for the 2017-18 men's basketball season that are part of the 2017 Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. In addition, XU announced a change in one previously scheduled non-conference road game.
Â
Xavier will host Rider on Monday, Nov. 13 and Hampton on Monday, Nov. 20, in home contests that are non-bracketed games in the Las Vegas Invitational. XU plays two games at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Nov. 23-24 against George Washington, Kansas State or Arizona State. The matchups for those games will be announced later this summer.
Â
As previously announced, Xavier travels to Wisconsin on Thursday, Nov. 16 as part of the Gavitt Games series that matches up teams from the BIG EAST and Big Ten conferences. That game forced XU to cancel its Nov. 16 trip to Utah, which was the return game for last year's matchup at Cintas Center.
Â
"Being on the road for the Gavitt Games was not a surprise," said Xavier University Director of Athletics Greg Christopher. "The BIG EAST's Gavitt Games grid had us traveling in 2015 and again this season. Home games were scheduled for 2016 and 2018. Unfortunately, our 2016 home game fell through and we added the Utah series - the home game with the Utes last fall filled the Gavitt gap with a quality RPI game against a major conference team. We expected to finish the Utah series this November, but the BIG EAST coordinated a switch that will have us traveling to Madison instead of Salt Lake City. While the league office worked with Utah to cancel our game this fall, we have communicated to the Utah staff our openness to complete the series or play again sometime in the future."
Â
Xavier is expected to announce more of its non-conference slate during the month of June.
