Sergi's golden goal against No. 9 Georgetown extended XU's unbeaten streak to six straight on Saturday night
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer made its first appearance in the national rankings this season on Monday, checking in at No. 23 in the College Soccer News Top 30 poll. Additionally, redshirt sophomore Samson Sergi was named to the CSN National Team of the Week for his game-winner in Saturday night's 1-0 overtime victory against No. 9 Georgetown.
Sergi's golden goal came off a corner kick, as he finished off a header from Simen Hestnes in the 92nd minute for his fourth tally of the season. It was his first game-winner in a Xavier uniform and his fourth score in his last six outings. Sergi recorded three shots in both of XU's wins last week and is tied for the team lead in goals.
For XU, the national ranking is its first of any kind since Oct. 11, 2016 and comes on the heels of a six-match unbeaten streak – the longest for the program since a nine-game spurt in 2014.
Its the first time the Musketeers have been ranked in the CSN Top 30 since Nov. 18, 2015.
