Xavier Earns No. 1 Seed in the West in the 2018 NCAA Tournament

First time in program history the Musketeers have earned a No. 1 seed, will play winner of play-in game
CINCINNATI - After going 28-5 through the regular season and BIG EAST tournament action, the Xavier Musketeers earned the No. 1 seed in West bracket in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Xavier will play the winner of a play-in game between N.C. Central and Texas Southern to be played on Wednesday, March 14. Xavier's first round game will be held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. on Friday, March 16. Tip-off is slated for 7:20 p.m. ET with the game be aired nationally on TBS.

NCAA TOURNAMENT FACTS |
- Xavier is a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Previously, the highest seed the Musketeers had earned was a No. 2 seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Xavier was also a No. 3 seed in 2003 and 2008.
- Xavier has made 12 of the last 13 NCAA Tournaments and 16 of the last 18. Only eight schools have been to at least 12 NCAA Tournaments in the last 13 years: Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga and Michigan State are at 13, while Xavier, North Carolina, Villanova and Wisconsin are at 12. Xavier is making its 28th appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament overall.
- In the 2017 NCAA Tournament, the Musketeers went to the third Elite Eight in program history, also making it to the Elite Eight in 2004 and 2008. Xavier is one of 21 schools that have been to two or more Elite Eights in the last 10 tournaments (2008-17) and one of 19 schools that have been to three or more in the last 15 years (2004-17).
- Chris Mack, who was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year, has led Xavier to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in his nine year as head coach, including the last five tournaments.

- Xavier is the one seed in the West Bracket, and will play the winner of a play-in game for the No. 16 seed. N.C. Central and Texas Southern will play on Wednesday, March 14 in Dayton to advance to play Xavier. Time and television to be determined.
- N.C. Central earned the automatic bid out of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference after winning the MEAC Conference Tournament for a second-straight year. The Eagles are 19-15 overall and went 9-7 in the MEAC regular season to earn the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament. Xavier has never faced NCCU.
- Texas Southern earned the automatic bid out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, marking the fourth time in five years Texas Southern won the SWAC Tournament, including the past two. The Tigers are 15-19 overall and went 12-6 in SWAC play to earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. Xavier has never faced TSU.
