Sean O'Mara Selected For Collegiate All-Star Summer Tour In Spain

CINCINNATI --- Xavier University senior forward/center Sean O'Mara has been selected to be part of a team of collegiate all-stars for USA East Coast that will head to Madrid, Spain this summer for competition against the National Teams of Japan, Venezuela, Mexico, and Senegal.

"I am really excited for Sean to gain a valuable international playing experience this summer," said Xavier head coach Chris Mack. "To add in the fact that Larry Brown will be the coach is only going to add to Sean's experience. I know he's excited for the August trip."Â

East Coast's training camp will be held on the campus of Columbia University in New York City on August 5-6 prior to the team's arrival into Madrid on the August 7.

USA East Coast, founded in 2006 by Guy Rancourt, has traveled to 12 countries and competed against 22 national teams. Â Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown is the USA East Coast Head Coach for their 2017 tour.

The program aims to expose student-athletes to high-level international basketball, as well as the culture and lifestyle they might experience as pros abroad when their NCAA eligibility expires. Of its former players, 52 have gone on to play professionally. Those who have advanced to the NBA include Quinn Cook, Russ Smith, Dwight Powell, Mike Gbiniije, Rakeem Christmas, Jarrod Uthoff and Marshall Plumlee.

O'Mara was one of the big stars of Xavier's 2017 postseason run to the NCAA Elite Eight. O'Mara was Xavier's third-leading scorer during the NCAA Tournament at 10.5 ppg., while hitting 65.0 percent (13-of-20) from the field. Â O'Mara scored in double figures in the first two NCAA games, including a career-high 18 in the Maryland win on March 16 on 5-of-6 shooting to go with a game-high seven rebounds. He contributed 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks in the Florida State win on March 18 and scored eight points, including the game-winner with 40 seconds left, against Arizona on March 23.
