Men's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Action Hosting No. 9 Georgetown

The Musketeers ride a five match unbeaten streak into league play
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer rides a five match unbeaten streak into BIG EAST action, hosting No. 9 Georgetown to open league play on Saturday night at XU Soccer Complex. First touch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The match will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network, available through FOX Sports Go online or via mobile app.
The Musketeers (4-1-1) now have their longest unbeaten streak since 2015 after a 2-1 win over Cleveland State at home on Tuesday.
XU hasn't lost since falling in overtime during their season opener on Friday, Aug. 25 against Loyola Chicago. During the streak, XU has multiple goals in four of five matches and has posted two shutouts.

• Unbeaten in 2017, the resurgent Hoyas are ranked as high as ninth nationally by the United Soccer Coaches.
• Georgetown has wins over American, Coastal Carolina, Cal Poly and UCLA and is coming off a 1-1 draw at UConn on Sept. 9.
• Coming off a disappointing season, Georgetown missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years last year. The Hoyas finished with a losing record after graduating the winningest senior class in school history. The Hoyas are just one year removed from a BIG EAST Championship and 16-2-3 season.
• Head coach Brian Wiese enters his 13th season in 2017 and is 128-70-29 all-time at Georgetown.
• The all-time series is locked up at 3-3.
• XU won the last meeting 2-0 on Sept. 24, 2016 in Washington, D.C. Jalen Brown (34') and Matt Vasquenza (68') provided the goals for XU, which picked up its first-ever win at Shaw Field.
• With a 4-4-1 record in 2016, Xavier is now 21-11-4 (.639) in BIG EAST play since joining the conference ahead of the 2013 season.
• The Musketeers have never finished below fifth-place or missed qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships.
• Xavier has reached the league semifinals in 2013 and 2015, while also appearing in the 2014 title match against Providence. Last season, XU was eliminated in the quarterfinal round at Creighton.
• Xavier has faced 24 United Soccer Coaches-ranked opponents in the last seven years.
• Since 2010, Xavier boasts an 10-10-4 overall record against USC ranked opposition, including a win over No. 22 Boston College on the road this season.
• The Musketeers are also an incredible 6-2-1 against the Top-10 in that time frame, including wins at No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 1 Creighton last fall. In 2014, the Musketeers claimed victories against No. 5 Indiana and No. 8 Georgetown on the way to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 berth.
• Xavier extended its unbeaten streak to five, getting first half goals from Josh Grant (3') and Cameron Taylor (43') en route to a 2-1 win over Cleveland State at the XU Soccer Complex.
• Xavier dominated the match statistically, leading in shots (15-5) and corners (5-0).
• Grant's goal was his first of the season and came on a loose ball in the box off a deflection.
• Cleveland State equalized on a defensive miscue by XU in the 34th minute, but Taylor put the Musketeers back on top just nine minutes later with what would be the eventual game-winner.
• Taylor's goal was his team-leading fourth of the season and second in as many matches.
• Simen Hestnes registered his third assist of the season on the cross that found Taylor. Hestnes is now tied for the team lead with nine points (3g, 3a).
• Xavier has outscored its opposition 13-6 this season, holding a 95-56 edge in shots and a 53-16 advantage in corner kicks. XU also has a 39-20 edge in shots on goal against its opposition.
• XU's five match unbeaten streak is tied for its longest since Oct. 14-31, 2015 and is tied for its longest since a nine-match spurt from 9/20-10/29, 2014.
• The Musketeers have outshot or taken as many shots as their opponent in all six matches this season.
• Six different Musketeers have recorded an assist in the first five matches of the season.
• Four XU players already have two goals this season (Matt Vasquenza, Cam Taylor, Samson Sergi, Simen Hestnes).
