Saint Joseph's Head coach Cindy Griffin
On team's performance:
"I was proud of our team's performance today. We were bent a couple of times, but never broke. We showed great effort and if we bring that to the next five games we'll be in good shape."
On Xavier's 11-0 start:
"We've had a couple of those starts. We weren't in panic mode. We know that our defense is good enough to keep us in games when we aren't shooting the ball well."
On getting back into the game:
"We played smart. The timing of our defense and the traps were good. When a team is up, they play a little tentatively and we took advantage of that."
On Amber Harris:
"She is very talented. Size alone and skill alone, you have to guard her in double coverage. The difference between this year's Xavier team and last year's is their shooters. They have great shooters and you have to respect that. Because of Harris' guard-like skills, you have to treat her like a guard"
On Ta'Shia Phillips:
"She is very quick in that five foot radius and she is tough to get around. If you don't have a kid with equal girth, you have to compensate it in another part of your game to counter it."
Red-shirt junior forward Amber Harris
On Saint Joe's late run:
"Every team has their runs and they went on one and we had to match their intensity at the end. They are a tough team. We got relaxed, but then we had to jump out of that and just try to attack because they were coming."
On her game:
"I was attacking. Sometimes, I'm better at attacking, and that's what the coaches told me to do."
What Coach McGuff said after the game:
"[He said] we played good, but we need to play for 40 and keep the intensity up because teams want to beat us."
On her play at this point in the season:
"I think I was a little hesitant [at the beginning of the season], I could have attacked the same at the beginning of the year but now I have more confidence. I'm going with the flow now."
On Ta'Shia Phillips:
"Her presence is great, I love feeding her in the post because she is so big and strong I know she can get the basket. She keeps me going and I keep her going."
On passing up a shot for a teammate:
"It's an unselfish game, so everyone needs the ball."
Head coach Kevin McGuff
On today's play:
"We had stretches where we played well today. We had a chance to put them away in the second and didn't do that. That is something that we have to stay focused on-how we are playing and less on what the score is."
What allowed Saint Joe's to come back:
"We were lackadaisical and careless with the ball which gave Saint Joe's an opportunity to get back. We lost our focus and concentration to put the game away."
On Amber Harris:
"She played well today and was aggressive, the player we expect to see. She is a work in progress in terms of last year. She has to work on her consistency, bring the aggressiveness she brought to today's game to every game. Having not played last year, she is still getting her timing. It's coming and she's doing a good job."
On Special Jennings:
"She didn't shoot the ball particularly well but I was glad to see her knock down some free throws down the stretch."
On Youth Day:
"We`ve had a lot of success with our Youth Day games [in the past], bringing grade school kids in to watch the game, but the weather didn't cooperate. I'm looking forward to doing it again and hopefully the weather will cooperate [next year]."
