Senior guard Dee Dee Jernigan
On the game:
“We needed to stay focused, rebound and make free throws because we were in the bonus early. Our objective was to get stops and make free throws.”
On runs:
“We went on the run in the first four minutes, they were due for a few runs [during the game].”
On escaping with a victory:
“It wasn’t much of an escape [because] we pulled it together when we needed to. Richmond is a good team [that] made shots, tough shots, when they needed to, but we pulled it together at the end of the game.”
Red-shirt junior forward Amber Harris
On Richmond:
“I think they were going to play hard because we were the only undefeated team [in the conference].”
Head coach Kevin McGuff
On the game:
“[Richmond] was missing a lot of shots because our defense was good. To their credit, they hung in there and made a game of it.”
On Dee Dee Jernigan:
“Dee Dee played extremely well I think she is going to be an important part of our team here as we head into March.”
On Ta’Shia Phillips:
“She played really hard, 16 rebounds is terrific. Her effort and energy down the stretch was key.”
Ball handling:
“We turned the ball over too much in the first half. When we took care of the ball, we were able to get great shots.”
On Richmond’s Brittani Shells
“Brittani is a terrific player and I thought our defense on her was good in the first half.”
On the close game:
“We haven’t had to play in a close game at the end in a while and I’m proud of how we stayed together in the last four minutes. Missouri was the last game, they cut it to four and St. Bonaventure tied it with I think 10 to go and we stretched the lead. I was glad to see our players stay together and execute to get the win.”
