CINCINNATI – Head coach Scott Googins and Xavier baseball announced the addition of three new recruits during the spring signing period on Monday, further adding to a talented group that will join the roster for the 2018 season.

• Matt Warkentin – 1B/OF – Leamington, Ontario (Johnson County CC)

Griffin Lanoue – RHP – Edina, Minn. (Rosemount High School)
• A projectable, big righty at 6-foot-4, Lanoue was an all-conference pitcher with a three-year ERA of 1.50 on the mound.
• Received high school's presidential award and is a National Honor Society member.
• As a football player, helped team to two district championships and recorded 110 tackles and five interceptions as a senior. As a defensive back and receiver, he led his team in receiving yards, interceptions, receiving touchdowns, tackles, receptions, punt blocks and punt return yards.
• Brother, Haydn, plays for College of St. Scholastica, a Division III college program in Duluth, Minn.
Coach Googins on Lanoue:
"Griffin is a very athletic righty who we feel like is just scratching the surface of what he's capable of. He's been competing as a three sport athlete (football, hockey, baseball) his whole high school career, so we're excited to see how he takes off when he's able to channel the skills he's learned from those sports into competing on the mound year-round. His toughness and competitiveness will be valued assets on our pitching staff."

Matt Mancino – RHP – Larchmont, N.Y. (Cheshire Academy)
• 6-foot righty with an 0.74 ERA in three years of varsity.
• Helped team to 21-2 record and a CHSAA city championship as a junior.
• Named 2017 Rawlings/Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and Northeast All-Region First Team.
Coach Googins on Mancino:
"Matt is a right-handed pitcher that has shown an advanced level of 'pitchability' at a young age. He's able to really locate and change speeds and is a tough guy to square up. He's played a high level of baseball through his high school years, so we think that it's going to be a pretty seamless transition to get him to a contributing role for us early on."

Matt Warkentin – 1B/OF – Leamington, Ontario (Johnson County CC)
• A 6-foot-6, athletic first baseman and outfielder from Canada, Warkentin will transfer to XU from Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas.
• Began his college career at San Francisco, where he played in 35 games and made eight starts as a freshman. Also made 10 appearances on the mound, striking out six in 11 innings of relief.
• As of April 14, hitting .351 with 12 homers and 55 RBI for nationally-ranked Johnson County Community College.
• Posted a .375 batting average with three home runs and 28 RBI in 120 at bats as a senior playing for the Great Lake Canadians travel team.
Coach Googins on Warkentin:
"Matt is a big time bat that we think will be in the middle of our order for the next few years. Not only does he have some thump in his bat, but he also has a great amount of athleticism that allows him to be a plus defender at first base as well. His work ethic and professional approach to the game will fit in great with our current roster."
