Women's Tennis one of 62 teams nationally to earn Public Recognition for 15-straight years
Seven Xavier University athletics teams earned public recognition from the NCAA for posting Academic Progress Rates (APR) in the top-10 percent of their sport for the multiyear rate, ending with the 2018-19 academic year.
"Having seven teams earn Public Recognition Awards is a credit to our student-athletes, coaches and academic staff," said Greg Christopher, Xavier University's Vice President for Administration and Director of Athletics. "Xavier Athletics has always prioritized academic excellence and this is further evidence of our programs' commitment to success in the classroom as well as on the playing field."
Xavier's baseball, men's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's golf, women's swimming and women's tennis programs all earned the recognition. This year's award includes data from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
This marks the 15th consecutive year in which women's tennis has earned public recognition, making it one of 62 teams nationwide that have earned Public Recognition Awards every year the measure has existed.
Since the NCAA started the Public Recognition Awards program in 2004-05, Xavier has had 98 teams earn the annual award.
Teams earning Public Recognition Awards increased to more than 1,380 from 326 schools, largely as a result of an increase in perfect scores. Of the teams recognized, 499 competed in men's or mixed sports, and 881 competed in women's sports. APRs for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000, and the number of teams posting perfect scores increased to 1,266 marking an increase of 52 teams from last year.
