EXTRA BENEFIT
An extra benefit is any special arrangement by a Xavier employee or a representative of the institution’s athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete’s relative or friend a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation.
You MAY NOT:
- Accept professional services (i.e., doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.) at a reduced rate or at no charge that is not available to the general public.
- Receive a fee for speaking engagements. You may receive actual and necessary travel expenses when speaking to educational or charitable groups.
- Be involved in any promotion of commercial products or services. This being the case, it is not permissible for any student-athlete with eligibility remaining to sign autographs at commercial establishments. NCAA rules permit student-athletes with eligibility remaining to sign autographs at Xavier sponsored events.
- Receive free use of a vehicle.
- Receive a free or reduced rate for off-campus housing.
- Receive anything of value (i.e., meals, drinks, apparel, cover charge) based on your status as Xavier student-athlete.
SPORTS WAGERING
NCAA regulations prohibit student-athlete participation in sports wagering. Your participation in these activities could cost you your eligibility. Any activity in which an individual must pay a fee to enter with the chance of receiving a prize at the end is a violation. Gambling activities that do not involve the outcome of contests are not permitted (e.g., fantasy leagues, picking the top scorer). Cash is not the only prohibited item to be used as a wager in gambling. It is not permissible to bet with any other item that has tangible value, such as a shirt or a meal. Providing information about a student-athlete to individuals involved in organized gambling activities is considered participation in a gambling activity and is prohibited. Please see the following NCAA link for more information on sports wagering.

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
To remain academically eligible, student-athletes must:

- 24 credit hours before the start of their second year (or third semester) of collegiate enrollment; and
- 18 credit hours since the beginning of the previous fall term or since the beginning of Xavier’s preceding regular two semesters (excluding summer); and
- 6 credit hours during the preceding semester.
- Fulfill percentage-of-degree requirements:Â Beginning with their third year (or fifth semester) of enrollment, student-athletes must have successfully completed a percentage of course requirements in their degree programs to remain eligible for that year. Those percentages are as follows:Â
- Third year (or fifth semester) – 40 percent;
- Fourth year (or seventh semester) – 60 percent; and
- Fifth year (or ninth semester) – 80 percent.
- Fulfill grade-point-average requirements: Student-athletes must meet the following GPA requirements to compete:
