Doug Tegge led Xavier men's soccer to a higher level during his four seasons. In his freshman year Tegge finished second on the team in points and scoring with 15 points and six goals. He was also named MVP of the Diadora Classic at University of Cincinnati. As a sophomore, Tegge helped XU reach the top of the MCC standings, pulling a worst to first turnaround.
Tegge steadily improved each season at XU and set numerous records along the way, establishing five school records; most career goals (51), career assists (27), career points (129), points in a season (53) and goals in a season (22). His career assist record was eclipsed in 2000.
During his senior season, Tegge ranked among the nation's leaders in scoring with 53 points. Tegge also collected an array of awards while at XU, including MCC Player-of-the-Year and a spot on the All-MCC First Team. Tegge also received All-MCC honors in '93 (Second Team) and '94 (First Team). Upon completing his career at XU, Tegge was selected by the Dayton Dynamo with the third pick in the National Professional Soccer League Draft. The Dayton Dynamo became the Cincinnati Silverbacks.Â
