Jack Hoffman was a standout end on Ed Kluska's great post-war teams at Xavier. Hoffman combined with fellow XU Hall of Famer John Martinkovic to give Xavier one of the best defensive end tandems in the country.
XU compiled a 27-2-1 record during his three-year career, including records of 3-0 against Dayton, 3-0 against Miami, 3-0 against Louisville and 2-1 against Cincinnati. Hoffman was a sophomore starter and captain on the 1950 Salad Bowl team.
Hoffman played offensive end and on the defensive side of the ball, at tackle and end. He earned a reputation as one of the best in the college game. After Xavier he spent seven years in professional football with the Chicago Bears before a back injury cut short his career. Hoffman earned All-Pro status in 1956.
Hoffman was a member of the 1947 Cincinnati Post all-star football squad after a stellar career at Purcell High School. He played for Kluska at Purcell as well. He was also a First Team selection on the All-Ohio squad.
