Bob Quick, a member of the XU Basketball Hall of Fame, was a three-time Team MVP (1966, 1967, and 1968). Quick was one of the best all-around players to play basketball for the Blue and White of Xavier. He finished his career as the school's second all-time scorer and third all-time rebounder.
The 6-foot-6 forward, a school record tying three-time MVP, pumped in 1,636 career points and pulled down 939 career rebounds. He now ranks 13th on the all-time scoring list and sixth on the all-time rebounding list. He is the third all-time leading scorer among non-guards.
Quick's career scoring average of 21.0 ppg. breaks down into a consistent 20.0 as a sophomore, 19.3 as a junior, and 23.7 as a senior. He also led the team in rebounding twice, averaging 11.6 rpg. as a sophomore and 14.0 rpg. as a senior.
Quick enjoyed his best season as a senior, averaging team highs of 23.7 points and 14.0 rebounds. He connected on a school record 22 free throws out of a school record 24 attempts en route to a career high 40 points against Marquette on February 26, 1968. That was one of seven occasions on which Quick pumped in 30 points his senior year.
Quick set school records for most free throws made in a season (179) and a career (428) as well as most free throws attempted in a season (251) and a career (600). Those records stood until XU All-Time Leading Scorer Byron Larkin rewrote the record book in recent years.
At the conclusion of his senior year, Quick was selected Honorable Mention All-America by several news services and publications.
After his graduation from Xavier, Quick was selected in the second round of the 1968 NBA Draft by the Baltimore Bullets. He was the 18th selection overall, the highest NBA selection in Xavier history, until Tyrone Hill was selected 11th in 1990.
Quick played four seasons in the NBA, the first one-and-a-half with Baltimore and the remainder with the Detroit Pistons. Quick played in 136 games, collecting 822 points (6.0 per game) and 381 rebounds (2.8 per game). Quick had a short stint with Dallas of the ABA in the second half of the 1971-72 season.
