CINCINNATI - In the first of two home meets, Xavier swimming downed Butler by scores of 63-17 on the men's side and 63-29 on the women's side. The XU men improve to 10-5 on the season, while the XU women are now 7-10 in 2005.
The Musketeers finished first and second in every event on the evening en route to the victories.
On the men's side, two pool records fell as XU's Sam Gray established the first mark of the night in the 1650 free. The freshman touched the wall in a time of 16:26.96, which is also the top mark of the season in the event by 21 seconds. The second pool record came in the 400 IM as senior Dave Janszen completed the event in a time of 4:04.24. Janszen just missed his school record time of 4:01.88, which he set at Akron earlier this season. He was one of two double winners on the afternoon, as he took first in the 100 free with a time of 47.70. Matt Krouse was the Musketeers other double winner as the sophomore took first in the 100 back (54.39) and the 200 free (1:46.39).
The women's team had three double winners on the meet as Krystel Kooyman, Dana Hunter and Bridget Benner each recorded two wins. Kooyman took first in the 50 free (25.70) and 100 breast (1:08.36), while Hunter took top honors in the 100 free (54.85) and the 1000 free (11:02.66). The freshman, Benner, earned her third and fourth first-place finishes on the season as she won the 400 IM in a time of 4:42.67 and the 500 free with a time of 5:22.93.
Both teams will finish off the double weekend tomorrow as they host the University of the Cumberlands (formerly Cumberland College) for Senior Day. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 pm at the O'Connor Sports Center pool.
