
Women Swimmers Tie, Men Fall at Saint Louis

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - The Xavier women's swimming team notched a 147-147 tie with conference foe Saint Louis Saturday while the men's team fell to the Billikens, 160.5-130.5. For the women, freshman Kari Peglar took first place in the 200, 500 and 1000 Free events and also swam the last leg of the second-place finishing 200 Free Relay team.
Due to the fact Xavier does not compete in diving, Saint Louis automatically won all four diving events which accounted for 32 of the SLU women's team points and 29 of the SLU men's points.
The foursome of senior Matt Krouse, junior Matt Marcus and freshmen John Roof and John Buckley placed first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:37.26. In the 200 Free Relay, Krouse and Buckley teamed with freshmen Terence Mahon and Nathan Green for a first-place finish as well with at time of 1:26.56.
Roof also took first place in both the 100 Fly (53.40) and the 200 Fly (1:56.40) and Buckley too first in the 100 Breast (1:00.34) and the 200 Breast (2:10.82). XU took the first three slots in the 100 Breast as Marcus touched second (1:00.35) and sophomore Mark Febus came in third (1:00.74)
On the women's side, sophomores Elaina Suba and Alison Johnson teamed with freshmen Bethanie Griffin and Ashley Sohngen to touch first in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:39.19, which is the fifth-best time in program history.
Peglar's time in her first-place 1000 Free finish (10:34.22) was the second-best time in program history, second only to her record time of 10:25.65. In the 200 and 500 Free, Peglar recorded the third-best time in XU history with times of 1:53.63 and 5:06.02 respectively. Both were good for first place.
Sophomore Martha Cutter-Wilson touched first in both the 200 Breast (2:25.37) and the 400 IM (4:41.58). Both of her times ranked among the top ten times in XU's program history.
