DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A beautiful day in sunny Florida greeted the Musketeers and the rest of the field of the Xavier LPGA Int’l Invitational for the first round. Xavier is tied for fifth place with a team score of 310. Senior Rachel Levi was the top finisher for XU, tying for sixth place.
Levi shot a 3-over-par 75 off two birdies. The senior, who is comfortable at this course having finished in second at this tournament last year, battled through the tough pin placements to finish in the top-10.
“It was a perfect day for a round of golf,” Levi said. “I thought that the pin placements were really hard today. My best hole of the round was No. 16. I hit my approach shot left of the pin like coach said and I ended up making the putt for birdie.”
Freshman Christine Cash finished in the top-15 with a 5-over-par 77. Senior Audrey Fellmeth and rookie Kristin Tan rounded out the score for the Musketeers and are tied for 30th with 7-over-par 79s. Sophomore Breanna Patz carded an 11-over-par first round.
Three individuals are participating in the event for Xavier. Freshman Ariel McNair is tied with Fellmeth and Tan with a 7-over-par 79 for 30th place. Junior Michelle Winkler shot an 85 and sophomore Alexandra Lake finished with an 86.
University of Montana is leading the tournament with a team score of 299. Daytona State sophomore Mitsuki Katahira is leading the tournament after shooting a blistering 3-under-par 69.
Xavier is paired with Florida Atlantic and Lamar for the second round with tee times off No. 1 tee from 8:50 – 9:30 a.m.
