XU vs. Florida
12.31.10 | Men's Basketball
Dec. 31, 2010
Recap | Box Score | Notes
Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan
On Xavier "I think they obviously have a great tradition. They have as much tradition as anywhere else in the country. I knew that when we got up by 14 or 15, they'd make a run at us. They've got a lot of pride. It was a great win for our guys."
On XU's players "[Tu] Holloway is a hard guy [to guard]. More than half of his points come from the foul line. I thought [Jamel] McLean and [Kenny] Frease got too fatigued. When we subbed [in the second half], they started to get tired. But Holloway was the guy who led the charge back, and then [Dante] Jackson made a big three from the corner."
"I think McLean is as good an offensive rebounder as we'll face. He's a physical presence. I think the thing that helped us is that we had a lot of guys to throw at Frease and McLean. We've been outrebounded only once this season."
"Our shot distribution was really, really good. And that opened some things for our perimeter guys. They [Florida's perimeter players] got to the free throw line and that offset what Holloway did."
Xavier Players
About the 30-game home winning streak "I really didn't think about the streak. We know we're a good team and they're a great team."
About XU's inability to make field goals during a 10-minute stretch in the second half "We couldn't get what we wanted. And they stopped us."
About Florida's team height "That's a tough thing to deal with. They're all big and they're all really strong. They have a lot of really good post players. Their offensive rebounding could have cost us the game."
On how XU played at the start of the second half "For me, sometimes I feel a little stiff after halftime. We didn't come out ready to play."
About the 30-game home winning streak "We're about to start A-10 play and it's been about a hundred years since we lost at home in the A-10. That streak is more important to us."
On his extensive game action "All I was thinking was to go out there and leave it all out on the court."
Xavier Head Coach Chris Mack
"Not the way you want to close out the 2010 year. But give credit to Florida. I told my kids in the locker room that the game was won by Florida in the first four and half minutes of the second half. They are an excellent team. We knew that coming in."
"We struggle to score. It's who we are. We are not a great three-point shooting team. We've got to rely on more than one or two players."
"Whether Kenny [Frease] comes off the bench or starts, he's a huge part of our basketball team. He's playing the best basketball of his career."
On Kevin Feeney "He did a great job. There's a reason I play Kevin Feeney. You just witnessed it. He does that every day in practice."
"All streaks come to an end. But we didn't want it to end today."
