CINCINNATI - Senior Kieran Lovelock led the Xavier University men's golf team to its second-straight Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout victory, as the Musketeers downed Cincinnati by a 27-21 count on Tuesday afternoon at Maketewah Country Club in the Queen City.
The Shootout followed a Ryder Cup hybrid format, with 12 alternate shot matches being played in the morning and eight individual and four best ball matches being played in the afternoon.
Each match was worth three points as the teams earned one point for winning the front nine, one point for winning the back nine and one point for winning the match. Lovelock was outstanding for XU, earning 8.5 out of a possible nine points on Tuesday. Lovelock and Glynn swept their morning alternate shot match, and Lovelock swept his individual match and won 2.5 out of three points in his best ball match with Sebastian MacLean in the afternoon.
Doug Steiner and Aaron Siekmann both made 30-foot birdie putts on the final hole to clinch the title. If both players had missed, the event would have ended in a tie. Xavier would like to say a special thank you to Maketewah for hosting the event and to Skyline Chili for sponsoring.
Xavier will be back in action on April 30 when the team competes at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be played in Williamsburg, Va.
