Burger Leads Xavier in First Two Rounds of Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Xavier men's golf team finished sixth after the first two rounds of the 42nd Annual Marshall Invitational. Senior Chris Burger leads the Musketeers, sitting in tenth place heading into the final round.
Xavier shot a team score of 284-277--561 (-7) on the par 71, 6,573-yard Guyan Country Club. The Musketeers are one shot back from a three-way tie for third. VCU is the leader heading into the final round with a 13-under-par team score of 555.
As a team, Xavier has the third-most birdies after two rounds with 35 and sits in fourth in par-4 scoring with a 4.03 average.
Burger leads Xavier and sits in tenth place after carding a two-round total of 4-under-par 138 (70-68). Classmate Nick Helser is in a tie for 16th two shots behind Burger after carding rounds of 71-69--140 (-2). Senior Sebastian MacLean is in a tie for 20th with a 1-under-par total of 141 (72-69).
Freshman Korey Ward shot a 2-over-par 144 in his first competitive rounds of collegiate golf to sit in a tie for 37th. Classmate Tanapol Vattanapisit carded rounds of 75-71--146 (+4) for 53rd place. Sophomore Yuki Kato, competing as an individual, shot rounds of 74-70--144 (+2) for 37th.
