Ward Finishes Second, Musketeers Third at Cobra Puma Invitational

CINCINNATI - Korey Ward fired a final round 70 (1-under), finishing second overall as Xavier men's golf took third at the 2015 Cobra Puma Invitational on Tuesday at Maketewah Country Club.

Ward started the day in second and finished tied for first, but dropped a one-hole playoff against WKU's Nate Johnson. The Hilltoppers finished second as team (+22), falling six strokes short of team champion Eastern Kentucky (+16).

The Musketeers shot 884 (+32), claiming third-place ahead of Ohio (+38), Butler (+44), Morehead State (+49), Wright State (+65) and Eastern Illinois (+80).

Ward led the field with a 3-under performance on all par-4 holes and tied for the most birdies among all participants (14).

Senior Tanapol Vattanapisit carded a 74 (3-over) to finish tied for 11th at 6-over.

John Burger (t-38th, +21) and Matt Gerard (t-41st, +22) rounded out the team scoring for Xavier with rounds of 75 and 81, respectively.

The Musketeers return to the course this upcoming weekend for the BIG EAST Championship, which begins on Sunday, April 26 and lasts through Tuesday, April 28. The three day event will be hosted at Callawassie Island Golf Course in Okatie, S.C.
