Xavier pitcher selected in 27th round (No. 819)
CINCINNATI -- Former Xavier pitcher Jacob Bodner was selected in the 27th round (No. 819) of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday afternoon. He becomes the second Musketeer drafted in as many years, and the ninth under head coach Scott Googins.
In his three-year playing career, Bodner posted a 7-4 record with a 5.02 ERA in 86 innings of work. The right-handed pitcher made 54 appearances with four starts in his career, while posting two saves.
The Danville, Ky., native had arguably his best season as a Musketeer during the 2013 season, recording a 6-2 record with a 3.23 ERA in 24 appearances out of the bullpen. He missed the 2014 season with an injury before ending his career with 18 appearances in 2015.
Bodner is the first Xavier player taken in the MLB Draft since Vinny Nittoli was selected by the Seattle Mariners in 2014 (25th round, No. 741). All told, the Musketeers have had 28 selected in the MLB Draft since 1966.
Bodner graduated in the spring of 2015 with a degree in business management.
