
CINCO Announces Winners of the “Innovative Educator of the Year Award”

Computer Science Professor Dr. Gary Lewandowski Named 2016 Winner
CINCINNATI - CINCO Family Financial Center Credit Union is proud to announce the winners of the CINCO Innovative Educator of the Year Award for faculty and staff at Xavier University. The Innovative Educator of the Year Award was presented to Dr. Gary Lewandowski, Professor, Computer Science Department.
The runners up were Dr. E. Paul Colella, Professor, Philosophy Department, Honors Program and Philosophy, Politics and The Public Honors Program and Dr. Wendy Maxian, Associate Professor and Chair, Communication Arts Department and Associate Professor and Chair, Gender and Diversity Studies Program.
CINCO has been a part of the Xavier University community since 1987 and The Innovative Educator of the Year Award is a continued effort by CINCO to support university faculty and students.
"The winner and runners up were determined by a selection team made up of senior managers of CINCO Credit Union." Said Mark Schweinfurth, Chief Executive Officer of CINCO Credit Union. "We are very happy with the increased participation this year. We at CINCO hope that the Innovative Educator of the Year Award continues to grow and encourages people to become innovators in everything they do." Schweinfurth said.
The CINCO Innovative Educator of the Year Award was presented December 10, 2016 at the Xavier men's basketball game versus Utah. The winner received $1,000 and the two finalists received $500.00 each.
Nominated faculty were asked to submit an essay of up to 300 words which outlined what distinguished them as an innovative educator. This included any specific evidence of creative, effective innovation in teaching.
Mary Kochlefl, Executive Director for Academic Organizational Development and Online Learning, said "We are excited that CINCO continues to recognize innovative teaching approaches here at Xavier. CINCO's award celebrates the high expectations we have for Xavier faculty— that they engage students deeply in the learning process in creative and effective ways. Recognizing the winners at a men's basketball game provides an ideal chance to highlight the important role teaching plays at Xavier."
