Musketeers Win Seven Events During BIG EAST Championships

Men finish Championships in third, women fourth
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Xavier swimming close out the week at the BIG EAST Championships on Long Island by collecting an seventh event title and three more school records. Xavier's women finished fourth with 498 total points while the men finished in third place, collecting 658.50 points, coming down to the wire with Georgetown for second place.
On the final day of competition, the Musketeer women added a pair of top-three finishes. Paxtyn Drew touched the wall in 2:00.15 in the 200 back, one of three Musketeers to compete in the finals in the event.
Emily Conners also finished third in the 100 free, setting a new school record of 50.40, breaking the record she set earlier in the day.
Conners' school record was her second of the meet, with the Musketeers setting nine during the course of the Championship.
Caroline Gaertner also set a pair of school records and NCAA B-Cuts, winning the BIG EAST Championship in the 100 fly and coming in second in the 100 back.
Xavier's women also set a new program best time in each of the relays during the week.

On the final day, the Musketeers collected another BIG EAST Championship, with Matthew Dyer touching the wall in 1:59.88 in the 200 breast to win the championship, set a school record and hit the NCAA B-Cut standard.
Dyer's championship brought the Musketeers' total to six for the meet, the second most event titles among men's team, behind Seton Hall.
Dyer's title was his second of the meet, sweeping the breast stroke after winning the 100 back on Friday.
Knox Hitt also earned a title on Friday, repeating as the 100 fly champion with an NCAA B-Cut time and school record in the event.
Sam Johanns earned his first BIG EAST Championship as an individual on Friday, winning the 100 back after setting a school record in the prelims.
The Musketeers also won a pair of relay championships, winning the 200 and 400 medley relay setting school records in both.
Xavier's men set eight school records in all, and a pair of NCAA B-Cut times.
