The bar was a popular college hangout for Xavier students
CINCINNATI - Fans will notice numerous changes to the seating and hospitality areas of Cintas Center when they return for the 2017-18 basketball season. The latest addition targets the nostalgic memories of Xavier University alumni for the popular Norwood Café, more commonly known as "The Woods."
Located at the corner of Dana and Cleneay, it was demolished in 2008 to make room for construction of University Station, including the All for One Shop.
The centerpiece of the project will be the installation of the original bar that spanned the 35 feet of The Woods' main gathering space.
"Xavier bought the Norwood Café and all of its contents, including a 100-year-old cherryback bar," said Xavier University Vice President John Kucia. "The owner, the late Charlie Becker and his widow Yvonne, said they had 200 fake I.D.s that were confiscated from Xavier students over the years. We've thought about how those could be incorporated into the new space."
"We are always looking for new and exciting ways to engage our fans at Cintas Center," said Xavier University Director of Athletics Greg Christopher. "The D'Artagnan's Deck craft brew area has been expanded multiple times due to its popularity. This recreation of Norwood Café at another corner of the arena should be a big hit with alumni."
The Woods at Cintas Center will be located at the top of section 215 and will be open for all men's basketball home games and other selected events.
